about

This song reminds me of a scene from a Spaghetti Western; a small town desperate for rain to save it from wildfires. The sound of a 7 piece band with piccolo is also slightly reminiscent of Ennio Morricone. I didn't intend it to be so topical but I guess that's life in 2021!
We could fix so many things - but will we? What's the problem with the human race which has achieved so much but seems incapable of sharing resources and keeping the planet habitable?
I hope this song is uplifting as well as asking those questions. Amazing singing and playing from Sara Harris vocal, Diane Annear piccolo, Steve Waterman trumpet, Mike Hall sax and Andrew Godsall drums. The arrangement is all about extreme syncopation and the use of piccolo is inspired by Don Sebesky who has created great arrangements for everyone from Freddie Hubbard and Kenny Burrell to Seal and Prince.

lyrics

We need some rain or else this whole town will go up in smoke
Something is wrong and things just might explode
We were chasing false profits then things got out of hand
But if we can work together there's a chance we could get out of here alive
And begin to mend things
We could fix everything and have enough for everyone
We can choose who gets help and who gets blown away
We can change, we know how, we can wake up and fix everything
The road to hell is paved with half-hearted intentions
Don't let them say things are beyond repair
Now we need to mend and share, or we'll run out of road
But if we can work together there's a chance to beat starvation
And disease and the floods and wildfire
We can fix everything, we have solutions by the score
We can try to get help to those who're washed away
We can still spread the load with a thousand new inventions
We can fix everything
We should fix everything
Look at the wind! Look at the rain!
Money talks, the weather screams!
This is the final call, or nothing will grow of this earth
Leave it another year, people will die that don't need to
Why are you waiting?
