about
Sometimes it feels as if we're going through long Winters and dark times. Here's a song about holding on to love in adversity, better things to come, harnessing optimism and self-belief. I've aimed for an uplifting sound with an 8 piece band, the arrangement influenced by Manfred Mann Chapter 3. This is the only tune on the album to feature two of my regular bandmates and ace musicians, Sarah Abbott on baritone sax and Sarah Bolter on flute - her solo is one of the highlights for me.
The youtube film features inspiring photography of Dorset scenes by Steve Hogan.
lyrics
When cold winds wail, the rain is falling too
And all the things you try are not working for you
When fences need mending, engines won't start
And you're too far away from people close to your heart
It will get brighter, it will get clearer, it will get warmer, we will be nearer
I never doubt that we can get stronger.
All the dreams you put on hold, all the times you walked the floor,
All the siren voices that say "Turn around and just use the door!"
Never be faint hearted, give up before you've started.
When you're working around the clock, with a sentimental block
It will get brighter, it will get clearer, it will feel warmer when we are nearer.
There's so much to this - but we can do this!
If it's too shallow to swim in we'll still be floating.
And you still take my breath away, and we can find a better way,
It will get brighter, it will get warmer, we will be closer.
